What is Aleppo Pepper?

Named after the ancient Syrian city of Aleppo, this prized chili is harvested, de-seeded, semi-dried, then crushed and packed with a little salt and oil. The unique processing gives it a darker, oilier texture than regular chili flakes, along with a distinctive flavour: fruity like sundried tomato, gently spicy, slightly tangy, and with an almost raisin-like sweetness. Heat level is mild to medium — family-friendly and complex.

Flavour Profile

Fruity, mild, slightly salty, with hints of raisin, cumin, and dark red pepper. The residual oil gives it a texture that blooms beautifully in warm olive oil or butter — releasing aroma explosively when it hits a hot surface.

How to Use — Bangladeshi Kitchen Tips

  • Hummus & Dips: Classic Aleppo pepper scattered over hummus with olive oil is a showstopping mezze

  • Pasta & Noodles: Sauté in olive oil or butter and toss through pasta for a quick gourmet meal
  • Flatbread: Mix with olive oil and spread on naan or roti before baking for a flavoured bread
  • Salad Dressing: Add a pinch to vinaigrette for fruity heat
  • Roast Chicken Rub: Combine with garlic, lemon, and olive oil as a full-bird rub
